Fishing: An Analysis - Or Why Fishbotters Won't Give Up

For today's school project, I took the empirical way and analyzed the fishing system. In short, I threw 3000 baits under three different scenarios and compared the results.
There are multiple things I wanted to find out at the end of the project, things I'll talk more about after I present the gathered data.

Nonetheless, I must first mention that the following can be considered one of the main reasons why fishbotters return and will likely keep on doing so.
To be noted - no Fishing Manual was present.

Worth noting that throwing 200 Worm takes roughly 25-30 minutes - with a minimum of 8 seconds per bait (3 cd + 5 minigame) it takes almost 27 minutes, adding 3 more to compensate (although it can take up to 40 minutes as well)

As such, one can assume that throwing 1000 Worm takes about or a minimum of 2 and a half hours.

1st session > 223 total catches, 123 minnows, 100 fish and 11 Clams.
2nd session > 243 total catches, 106 minnows, 135 fish and 25 Clams.
3rd Session > 255 total catches, 100 minnows, 150 fish and 26 Clams.

Valuing one Clam at 400k:
1st session > 4.4kk
2nd session > 10kk
3rd session > 10.4kk

Please do note/take into account the badluck on the 100 fish from the Pole +1 session. Clams from fish is 100% a game of chance, so the average and average/ 10 worm values for Clams can be ignored.

I didn't put this into suggestions because I'm not about to talk suggestions, but a couple of things that I have observed:

> It takes under two hours to get a Pole to +4, but most importantly roughly 30 minutes to get it to +3.
> In 2 and a half hours, you're lucky to get 10-15 Fishing Points from the total of 60 needed on a +5 Pole.
> In 1 hour, you can get about 10 points on a +4 Pole.
> Catch, minnow, fish, and clam differences between +3/4 and +5 are minor, despite the time it takes upgrade a Pole to the mentioned values.
> Fishing Pole upgrade rarely fails to +4, however mine failed 3 times to +5.
> The 3 sessions netted me 7 Grilled Carps and 6 Grilled Grass Carps - accounting them as they're the only ones with an actual use (MS + AS).
> A +1 Pole has the chances to catch as many fish as a +5 Pole, especially Minnows. Clams are subjective, but I'd say is just as possible.
> The difference between the +1 Pole and the +5 Pole is about 30 catches and 50 fish.
> The +1 Pole actually caught more minnows.

There's probably more things that I wanted to tackle, but they got lost throughout the (minimum) ~8 hours of fishing.
The point is that the differences between a Fishbotter that logs in one account, equips a basic Pole and leaves it running for a couple of hours and a player that worked for a +5 Pole are minimal. If the botter goes as far as to upgrade the Pole when needed, then the differences are close to null.
At the same time, investing time into upgrading a pole or buying a good one on the market is senseless at the moment.

Next up, I want to talk rare fish and what's implied by them.
In this respect, I assume that HP and SP fish are mostly useless. They might be used in PvP, but I'm not aware of that.
As such, the only rare fish that I am taking note of and that I caught are Carps and Grass Carps.

> I feel like investing 2.5 hours into throwing 1000 Worms should come with a decent amount of Movement Speed and Attack Speed fish, especially since they give values equal to M potions.
> I feel like Mandarin Fish, Salmon, Brook Trouts, Catfish are still considered rare by the system, even if they might not be. I assume this since these catches are the special ones. I did have the chance to fish with the Fishing Manual - needless to say, I have 1 of some rare fish (Pikes, Striped Bass, Smelt, Loach).
> Given the assumptions I made, the chance to catch actual rare fish is close to null. 6 Grilled Grass Carps attained in 8 hours offer me 1 hour of increased Attack Speed.

I understand that the data presented above can be seen as inconclusive. 1000 worms per situation is a small dataset still, but some aspects, as well as conclusions, are obvious.
At the same time, it must be taken into account that the maximum for a Fishing Pole is +20. This is the main reason why I have no issue with the rates live now - my main issue is with how easy it is for a fishbotter to change/adjust the market.

Fishbotters will return and players won't give much thought to Fishing because the system doesn't present many changes throughout Pole evolution - at least until +5. I do know that the max for a Pole is +20, but I still do believe that there should be a clear denominator for the first couple of ranks that would, first of all, deter fishbotters from even trying to get a Pole to +5/6/7/8/9 and only then start making a decent profit, and, second of all, that would differentiate between casual and regular fishers.
At the moment, grabbing a pole on a whim and throwing 1000 baits can net the same results as someone who has over 1500 Fishes Caught (equal to 16 hours or more of active fishing). I say active because, even though the max is +20, we now deal with a system that requires active and permanent attention, mostly. You cannot passively improve your pole - this being the reason why I think that even getting one to +5/6 should come with certain differences in rates.

I'm looking forward to opinions and fruitful discussion on this topic, as well as potentially some suggestions stemming from it - included further analysis of the data presented, as I feel I tackled only certain points, namely those that were of interest to me.

agree on all, i like fishing but most of it is just luck, and for mee it feels the same if i fish with +1 or +5, fishing should be going better an better if you fish more and fishbotter should only be able to catch good amount after upgrading a decent time. so that it will be not worth fishbotting until they are banned again and loose their rod.

if the rod fails will i loose all points or some of it?

Hello!

first of all WOW, thank you for this analysis, you did it very well in my opinion and its actually yeah showing that difference between +1 and +5 isnt that big, negligible i'd say further more because a normal player wouldnt fish constantly from+1 pole but as he does it he would progress and he would/should benefit from a higher level pole. Which brings me to the conclusion that +1 is actually too good for a starter and very well used situation by fishbotters. Right?

Regards.

on old Wom, i suggest to add some new Items to Fishing, im not making a new Suggestion about this but i write it here.

How about adding some Scrap Materials to fishing if you have 10 piece u can trade it to the fisherman, he will thank you for cleaning the waters and give you 1-3 Fishing points or a random rare fish. ( Material should be catched with a low %)

Add a sunken Treasure Box and a Lost Treasure Key, you can catch it very hard, like getting a soulstone from a metin. In the Box could be 1 rare item - Blessing Marble, Exo Scroll, Hermit, .....)

Make even normal fishes usefull instead of giving some HP or MP, make "crap" fishes if they are still in its raw state feedable to the baby Mount, they will raise a random trait by a low amount something like 1/10 a chehoum should would do.

its not about that fishing should make you rich, but the feeling that you could get something very valuable, and little bit of breaking the monotonus clicking.

Thanks for reading
Maybe i should make a suggestion ?
